BKGE | Projects

The Federal Institute for Culture and History of the Germans in Eastern Europe is integrated into the German university and research institute scene. It also undertakes academic exchanges with numerous national and international partners. Contacts and relationships are extended and deepened through a series of projects conducted within each of the Institute´s specialist areas of research, as well as interdisciplinary work carried out by the Institute as a whole.

Aristocracy in Silesia

In 2004, the BKGE initiated a bilateral German-Polish research project on the history of Silesia, in response to a proposal by Christina Weiss, the German Federal Government Commissioner for Culture and Media (BKM) at the time. The BKGE assumed the coordination of the project. more

Architecture of the Modern Age

Architecture of the Modern Age in Silesia during the First Decades of the Twentieth Century. The exploration of the history of the architecture in the Modern Age in Silesia is a long term Art-History project, being undertaken in co-operation with the Museum of Architecture in Breslau (Muzeum Architektury we Wrocławiu). more

Documenting the Heimatsammlungen in Germany

In the Federal Republic of Germany there are several hundred smaller museums with collections from refugees, expellees and emigrants. more

Development of Archival Collections

The most important basis for the study of history, contemporary and past culture is the extensive collections of original resources for old Eastern German history which can be found, for example, in the archives of Wrocław, Gdańsk, and Szczecin. more

European Network Remembrance and Solidarity

The European Network Remembrance and Solidarity has emerged on the initiative of the Culture Ministers of Germany, Poland, Slovakia and Hungary. The BKGE has provided advice on its inception and is actively involved in its coordination. more

National Movement and International Politics in the transnational field of conflict between Austro-Hungary, Romania and Serbia 1901-1916

The research project examines the influence of the Romanian and the Serbian national movement on the political relations between Austria-Hungary on the one hand, and Romania and Serbia on the other hand in the run-up to the First World War. more
